Until abortion and embryo destruction are abolished, we defenders of life must become much more vocal and visible. This will require a dramatic increase in the numbers of us who are willing to be active.
We must engage in multiple kinds of activities, which have varied goals and require multiple and varied front lines. I believe that abortion centers should be reserved for prayer-supported sidewalk outreach 40 HOURS OF EVERY WEEK OF EVERY YEAR AT EVERY KILLING CENTER UNTIL ABORTION IS ABOLISHED (40 Hours being symbolic of a “business” week).
The sidewalk outreach I encourage is not about trying to close down an abortion center, it’s about saving a child from certain death and his/her parents from certain harm, one family at a time. I have reservations about programs that are intended to close down abortion centers if their activities are conducted at those centers. Planned Parenthood and other killing centers will not go out of business until abortion is abolished. They might, however, relocate some of their accessible-to-outreach killing centers to inaccessible facilities and kill even more children.
The various other street activities, which are also very important forms of pro-life activism, can be easily and more effectively conducted on any street in the nation seven days a week. They need not be conducted at abortion centers to be effective. In fact they can be even more effective when locations are continually changed to reach even more people (literature exposing Planned Parenthood’s dirty business can be handed out to many passersby and signs can expose them as well). There is much more missionary work available at places other than abortion centers. There are many more pro-abortion people available to evangelize (four out of five in my area of the county) on any street in the nation. However, if these activities are to be conducted at abortion centers, they should not be conducted during a time when someone is attempting to sidewalk counsel. They do not compliment sidewalk counseling, which I believe should take precedence over all other activities outside abortion centers. Passersby may have a lot of life remaining ahead of them, but for the child that is being brought there to be slaughtered, it’s a matter of life and death right there and then and that child’s parents are facing dire consequences right there and then.
I believe we need to conduct numerous prayer vigils modeled after those of Msgr. Reilly’s Helpers of God’s Precious Infants.
I also believe we need weekly Life Chains along our thoroughfares.
And I believe we need to conduct frequent peaceful demonstrations in the public square (not at abortion centers).
We need to try to change the hearts and minds of pro-abortion Americans not only so that they won’t commit abortions, but also that they would help to abolish abortion nationwide.
