To all who are contemplating becoming Catholic or returning to the Catholic Church:
I want to encourage you to persevere. I would not blame you if you are having doubts due to present day words and actions of some members of the clergy and laity whose grave errors are destructive to Catholicism and the one, true Church founded by Christ Jesus. Neither despair nor be deterred because these agents of error can never prevail. They can however, if you allow them, cause to deprive you of the most blessed gift that God has ever given or offered to you – the Catholic Faith. Of course, I am speaking of authentic Catholicism, not the version(s) they and other catholic-in-name-only liars and hypocrites profess.
If you think I, as a lowly layperson, am being judgemental, consider this August 12, 2016 quote from Archbishop Charles Chaput:
Note that by “Catholic,” I mean people who take their faith seriously; people who actually believe what the Catholic faith holds to be true; people who place it first in their loyalty, thoughts and actions; people who submit their lives to Jesus Christ, to Scripture and to the guidance of the community of belief we know as the Church.
Anyone else who claims the Catholic label is simply fooling himself or herself — and even more importantly, misleading others.
Pray to the Holy Spirit to guide you to only listen to and read the words and writings of authentically Catholic clergy, religious and lay persons. Compare whatever you might read or hear from anyone claiming to represent the Church to what is documented in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. If those people have contradicted the catechism, they are in error.
Once you are a full-fledged Catholic, you may be heartbroken to notice that some of the Church’s clergy and many of her lay members are protestant-catholics. Pray for them and be a good example for them to imitate.
This is a time when it is tempting to liken the Church to a political party and say “I didn’t leave the party, it left me” and then join another “church” or be unaffiliated with any. What a terrible loss that would be for you! And what a gain that would be for Satan.
Here’s a good path for you to follow: BEING CATHOLIC
May God bless and guide you,
